AP3342: The Farquhar Partnership of Bristol

Vendors: “Professional & approachable sums up Lucinda from our experience in selling our practice. The framework provided helped ensure the necessary disciplines were brought to bear which allowed us to retain focus on the business at a crucial time. Administratively and logistically, setting up the various meetings and guiding us along the way was invaluable.

We’d certainly recommend Lucinda to accountancy practices looking to sell.”

Clive & Ann Farquhar, Directors; Sept. 2023

Purchasers:

“We had a fantastic buying experience with Lucinda, who supported us throughout the entire process & who we would absolutely recommend. Lucinda tuned into the qualitative considerations of us as the buyer & that of the seller, marrying us together for a great match up. Her involvement throughout each step of the process & availability once her work was complete was extremely appreciated.”

Richard & Corinne Bourke, Directors; Sept., 2003.

AP3344: Business Clan, South London

Vendor: “From the moment we first met Lucinda she took care to understand our business and what we as individuals were looking to get out of the sale. She spent time getting to know the ins and outs of our practice, so she was well informed when in discussions with potential buyers. Our practice is somewhat unconventional & so her advice on how to present it in the Sales Pack was invaluable. The extremely thorough marketing campaign, which Lucinda worked long and hard on, produced excellent results. We were able to meet a selection of potential buyers which she expertly co-ordinated for us.

Lucinda was available to guide us at every stage of the process & really went above and beyond to help us achieve the result we were hoping for. She pulled out all the stops to help us get the deal over the line & we are very grateful to her.

Delia Porter & Nicolle Anderson, Directors; Sept. 2023

Purchaser:  “Lucinda’s approach was very professional, transparent & methodical throughout our purchase. We really valued her balanced insight & wise counsel. It was clear that Lucinda did a lot of a work with the Vendor prior to going to market which made the process much easier & smoother for us. We look forward to doing more business with Lucinda again.”

Rohit Maini, Director, Oct. 2023

AP3343: Fred Chow & Co. online fees

Your detailed input and laser-focused marketing strategy facilitated the selection of three potential buyers from a pool of applicants. Your indefatigable and no-nonsense attitude made the sale process easier than it appeared. I would recommend Lucinda of A.P.M.A., confident that any onboard vendor/s and buyer/s will be impressed by her skills in this niche market. Thank you again Lucinda.”

Fred Chow Director of  F. Chow & Co; July 2023

AP3338: The Hanson Partnership of Cirencester

Purchaser: “During our acquisitions of a firm of Chartered Accountants, I found the support and insight Lucinda and A.P.M.A. gave to be hugely valuable and professional throughout. She had clearly invested a lot of time in understanding the practice that was for sale and the people involved and their needs, and this directly translated to making sure the acquisition progressed smoothly and quickly.

Lucinda has a lot of knowledge of the market which I appreciated hearing and helped me feel comfortable with what we were undertaking and how we were approaching it. Lucinda was always available as needed, kept in regular contact with us as the buyer and also the seller. Overall, Lucinda played a large part in the success of the transaction, for which we are grateful. I will certainly use A.P.M.A. and Lucinda again.”

Chris Biggs, Director of Theta Global Advisors; July, 2022

AP3332: Gritstone Tax Ltd. merged with MNE Accounting

Keith Emmerson, Director; Oct., 2021

AP3229: Hood Co. sold to B.W. Medical Accountants

Vendor: “Lucinda’s expertise was indispensable. Despite Covid restrictions she produced far more interested parties than I expected and we were able to settle a very good sale deal.

Lucinda’s calm and wise counsel throughout the process, clearly the result of many years’ experience, was paramount. I would highly recommend Lucinda for any accountant considering a sale.”

Rod Hood, Director; May, 2021

AP3222: BKS Ltd. sold to Welbeck & Bradwell

Vendors: “A huge thank you to Lucinda for all her help & support throughout the selling process. Lucinda began by spending a day with us gathering as much information as she could to learn about our practice. She then assisted us in setting up a comprehensive report for use by interested parties. The purchasers commented on how user-friendly the report was, which was entirely down to Lucinda’s input.

The country was just going into lockdown so we were surprised at the number of interested parties she presented to us. Lucinda told us exactly how to conduct the meetings which all went to plan.

On our 2nd round of meetings we met the practice with whom we have tied up. Lucinda continued to be a support throughout the whole process. We would recommend A.P.M.A. to any practice looking to merge or sell their business.”

Mark Stockwell, Director; March, 2021

AP3328: Colin Meager & Co. Ltd. sold to Dains

Vendor: “’From the start of the sale process A.P.M.A. were both professional in their approach & supportive & thorough in their guidance. Their expertise was apparent at every stage of the process. The negotiations were complicated by ill health on the side of the seller, but Lucinda showed creativity in addressing issues as they arose, offering reassurance as well as compassion at what was a difficult time. We felt in expert hands.

Pete Danns, assisting with sale; March, 2021

AP3315: Gerald Charles & Co. sold to Dulwich Accountancy Services

Having followed your detailed procedures we can now see that your selling structure really works and we are so glad we used you to help us find a buyer. Your guidance and in particular your advice in respect of the detailed information that we were required to produce to secure a buyer proved invaluable.

Charles Hajikypri, Director; August, 2020

AP3321: M.R. Cowdrey & Co. sold to M.N.E. Accounting

Vendor: “Lucinda guided me through the sale at a difficult time with the pandemic problems in a thoroughly professional manner throughout the process. She was on hand at all times to provide sensible advice which was helpful and reassuring. Her expert knowledge secured a satisfactory deal for both parties. AP3317: Blackman Terry LLP sold to Computex

Vendor: “A.P.M.A. have been professional and accessible throughout this process and have achieved a result in excess of my expectations. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.””

Jon Terry, Principal; July, 2020

AP3314: Bull Payne & Co. sold to Wright Vigar

Vendors: “We were aware of A.P.M.A. and their expertise in the field of selling accountancy practices for some time and thought that they would be the right broker for us which proved to be the case. They were also local to us and a first meeting was quickly and easily arranged. Lucinda was very professional at the meeting and discussed the sale process in great detail. She guided us through the various stages and was a great support to us throughout. A purchaser was found who ticked all the boxes for us and ultimately led to a successful sale. She was always available to answer any queries and we would have no hesitation in recommending her to another practice.”

Brian Payne & Mike Corrigan, Principals; March, 2020

Purchaser: “Thank you Lucinda for providing an excellent service. This is the first time we have engaged with an agent for an acquisition and Lucinda was very responsive and kept us up to date with developments. I found her very easy to deal with and have no hesitation in recommending Lucinda to anyone wishing to acquire or sell their accountancy practice.”

James Sewell, Partner; March, 2020.

AP3308/ AP3310: Accounts Net Ltd., freelancer fee base, sold to JSA Services

Vendor: “Lucinda met us in Edinburgh and spent a full day gathering information on our business and the way we operate. She explained to us how the marketing process should be undertaken to achieve interest from the widest pool of potential buyers. We were extremely impressed by the detail she was able to go into, using her vast experience to set out how the whole process would unfold from start to finish. Owing to the particular nature of our business (which is not a typical practice and therefore presented some challenges), the need arose to adapt the selling process itself which Lucinda recognised and implemented, working closely with us at every stage.

Everything Lucinda told us turned out to be exactly the way the actual sale process progressed from marketing and filtering interest through to potential buyer interviews and then to the transaction itself. I would not hesitate to recommend A.P.M.A. to handle the sale of any accountancy practice, we spoke with a few brokers, but no others came close to giving us the confidence that they were able achieve the sale on the terms we were looking for.”

Andy Phee, Director, September, 2019.

AP3309: Anthony & Co., Syerston sold to Reeve & Co.

Vendor: “In this day and age finding a firm that completely delivers on their promises is sadly rare.  For us A.P.M.A. proved such a firm and I have been delighted by the smooth and professional way the process was conducted. To take some credit we would like to consider ourselves the ideal client by responding promptly when called upon to move the process forward.

At the outset Lucinda set out a clear roadmap of the steps involved and, despite my skepticism, she was as good as her word and everything worked out like clockwork.

Finally I would just like to comment that both ourselves and the purchaser are delighted with the outcome.”

John Anthony, Principal, Sept. 2019

Purchaser: “The buying process has been managed incredibly professionally by A.P.M.A. from start to finish – I can’t think of any issues or complaints that have arisen whatsoever during the whole exercise.

Being my first acquisition, I have leant heavily on A.P.M.A.’s expertise to guide me through and I wouldn’t hesitate to do so again. I’d also recommend A.P.M.A. to others without hesitation. Now I’m really looking forward to bedding in the clients!”

Paul Reeve, Principal of Reeve & Co., Sept. 2019

AP3313: Michael D Nichols & Co., Maidstone, sold to Ultimate Accountancy

Vendor: “I was initially attracted to the idea of working with APMA for two reasons; firstly, acting as a broker, they equally represent the interests of both parties which I hoped would result in a fair & open negotiation and, secondly, having spoken to Lucinda, I was reassured by their level of experience and their extensive network within the accountancy world.

Even taking this into account, I was delighted by the number of interested parties that Lucinda was able to present me with – I had the luxury of really being able to think about what I felt would be the best match and choose accordingly. It was particularly useful to be able to lean on the input of an experienced and ethical negotiator at the offer stage as direct negotiation can often be a difficult thing to deal with.

In conclusion, I’m delighted to say that my initial assessment of A.P.M.A. proved to be correct and Lucinda was able to deliver on everything that she had stated; I would recommend their services without reservation.”

Rick Nichols, Director, July, 2019

AP3301: CEDAS, Towcester partial sale share to Peter Aratoon

Vendors: “We would like to say a big thank you to Lucinda who provided us with a first class service throughout this process. From our initial meeting with Lucinda, through to the conclusion of the transaction we were made to feel at ease and given confidence that a successful outcome could be achieved. Lucinda was always flexible in her approach and provided us with reassurance and guidance at every stage.

We initially went to APMA with an open mind as to how we were to achieve our goal, with one partner wishing to exit. The advice given by Lucinda and the quality of candidates presented to us allowed us to explore several opportunities, some of which we had not even thought of, before arriving at the right outcome for all involved and, most importantly, ensure a seamless transition for our clients.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the services of APMA to any prospective seller (or buyer). Thank you, Lucinda, for all your help and for your patience throughout.”

Aled Roberts, Director, July, 2019

AP3300: Fees Acquired via Active Role – Nottingham

Purchaser:

“During the process of acquiring fees from another local practice I decided to go down this route with Lucinda of APMA.

I cannot thank Lucinda enough for the way she handled the transactions for both parties and with impeccable professionalism. From the outset she has been on hand whatever time for guidance and advice and I don’t think I could have been in ‘safer’ hands right up until completion. I do not normally do testimonials for businesses but felt that in this case it was the right thing to do as a special thank you for all your help and advice.

For any other prospective buyers/sellers I cannot recommend Lucinda high enough and would have no hesitation in working closely with again in the future.”

Chris Caine, Principal, Jacobson Associates Ltd, Dec. 2018.

AP3332: Gritstone Tax Ltd. merged with MNE Accounting

AP3321: M.R. Cowdrey & Co. sold to M.N.E. Accounting

Vendor: “Lucinda guided me through the sale at a difficult time with the pandemic problems in a thoroughly professional manner throughout the process. She was on hand at all times to provide sensible advice which was helpful and reassuring. Her expert knowledge secured a satisfactory deal for both parties. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending her company to any prospective purchaser or seller for whom I am sure she will provide the finest service available.

AP3296: Wright & Co sold to Able & Young Ltd

Vendor:

We first met Lucinda in December 2017 in London to discuss the marketing and sale of our practice as we had both agreed to sell. We were both immediately impressed by her straightforward and non “hard sell” approach. The initial impression was that she was an honest person and with a great deal of experience in this area. Both of us had confidence in her from that 1st meeting and this subsequently proved to be correct. She did everything she said she would and when she said she would. The course of events she outlined at that meeting all happened in that order –

In May we met with our 8 chosen prospective purchasers from the list of 30 that Lucinda had produced. She advised us to use our instincts in selecting the final 3 to go forward with due diligence and this we did. We signed the contract for sale in August and completed in September 2018. Everything went as Lucinda stated.

We could not have begun to do this on our own and, not having been involved in this form of transaction before, felt vulnerable from the outset. At no time did Lucinda attempt to take advantage of the situation but simply guided us step by step. I feel extremely fortunate to have become involved with Lucinda and cannot speak too highly of her integrity and business ethics. From start to finish she was exceptional and efficient. I do not have any hesitation in recommending her to any prospective seller.”

Howard Nichols, Partner, October. 2018

Purchaser: “We received a letter through the post from APMA in February 2018. The sale was agreed by June 2018 and complete handover finalised by September 2018. Throughout the period from initiation to completion, Lucinda guided us. This being our first acquisition we were naturally apprehensive. Lucinda guided us, step by step and provided us with the necessary paperwork, contracts etc. She was brilliant in her approach and responded tirelessly to our telephone calls and emails. We would certainly like to make future acquisitions through APMA and look forward to working with Lucinda again in the very near future. We would also like to convey our sincere thanks to Lucinda for her assistance and guidance both pre and post-acquisition.”

AP3298: PAB Accountants sold to Tax Essentials

Vendor: “Having decide to sell my accountancy practice in December 2017 I waited until February to meet prospective professionals to assist in the sale. Lucinda was the stand out candidate from the 3 companies that I met.

Everything that she predicted happened; the mailshots & adverts went out in April & the feedback was as predicted. I had 9 prospective purchasers to meet over the course of a day in late May & I had the luxury of selecting 3 purchasers to commence due diligence. I finally selected my preferred purchaser & the sale completed late August 2018, 6 months after meeting Lucinda. The whole process has been seamless & Lucinda has been there day & night to assist throughout. The common comment from all the prospective purchasers was how good Lucinda was & what a stellar job she was doing selling my practice.

I can without hesitation recommend Lucinda & APMA to any prospective seller or purchaser.”

AP3295: Coralmead Accountancy of Bishops Stortford sold to Day Accountants

Vendor: “Lucinda from APMA has provided excellent advice and support throughout the process of selling my accountancy practice. I felt very well prepared throughout the whole process and if I had any questions at any time, Lucinda was always available to put my mind at rest. The calibre of potential purchasers offered by APMA was excellent and this allowed me to select the best possible Purchaser for the business. I am happy knowing that and I can retire from the practice and confident that it will continue to operate in good hands. Lucinda I can’t thankyou enough for your support and would highly recommend you to others who are planning to sell their practice.”

Jackie Dickinson, Coralmead Accountancy, July, 2018

AP3293: Axton’s Chartered Accountants of Lewes sold to James, Todd & Co. Ltd.

Vendor: “Lucinda worked very hard and in many ways to enable the sudden sale of my husband’s business. She was reactive to the situation and kept searching for the right kind of buyer with the right kind of culture to take it over. She was approachable and helpful at all times. I would recommend her to anyone considering a sale of their accountancy firm.”

Karen Miles, Vendor’s widow, March, 2018

AP3289: The Provincial Tax Shop, Wigan sold to Forster & Co.

Vendor:  “When I made the decision to retire from Practice in May 2017, I had no idea who to use as an agent to facilitate the disposal. I looked on line and found Lucinda Kitchin of APMA. I had heard of the company, but that was the extent of my knowledge. I researched thoroughly and made the decision to contact Lucinda.

Although based in Newark, Nottinghamshire, she came up to Manchester to meet me and I was impressed from the very start with her professional approach, her obvious knowledge and her attention to detail. She discussed everything with me, from what I wanted, to what I was looking for in a prospective purchaser. It was a long meeting but by the end, she had gathered all the information that she needed about me, my practice and how I wanted to progress the disposal.

She obviously has an incredible knowledge of the market and once I had completed all of the information she required, she set about finding my prospective purchaser. Although this took us over the summer holiday period, she worked tirelessly with the advertising campaign and the subsequent identification of a number of potential purchasers. Based on my requirements she then provided a list of practices in the area who had responded to the marketing.

I chose who I wanted to meet, they were then interviewed and from these interviews, we reduced the number to a shortlist of three, each of whom were invited to undertake due diligence. We were then made three offers from which we chose one. The deal was signed on 4 December and we are now in the process of handing over.

I have to say that without all of the help that Lucinda gave to me throughout the process, often outside of normal working hours, and the advice she gave me (at times I must have driven her mad) we would never have achieved our goal. I cannot recommend her and her company highly enough to anyone who is considering their own disposal. She is, in my opinion, the best.”

Philip Bowick, Principal, Dec. 2017

AP3291: Banbury office of Cottons sold to AG Kelly Ltd.

Purchaser: “I found Lucinda very helpful throughout the process. She was always available to discuss matters on the phone and provided useful guidance. I would recommend Lucinda to other accountants looking to purchase a practice.”

Tony Kelly of AG Kelly Ltd., Dec. 2017

AP3284: Wheatley & Co., Surrey sold to Bolton Smith

Vendor: “I have to say, having been introduced by the Chairman of my firm’s governing body, my expectations were extremely high, right from the start. Little did I know how high the standard of service would turn out to be. At our initial meeting Lucinda took the time to get to learn more about my practice and discuss my requirements.

With her incredible knowledge of the potential market, she identified over 60 potential purchasers. She then presented me with a list of 42 serious applicants, helping me reduce that list down to 9 for initial interview & eventually 4 for final meetings. Following due diligence, all 4 of those potential purchasers made acceptable offers.

My practice has now been sold (for a tidy sum) to someone who I have complete confidence in to take over at the helm. Right from our initial meeting, through the interview process to final selection, the service that Lucinda provides has been exceptional. She has made herself available , often out of hours, providing me with reassurance & guidance that I required along the way. I have no hesitation in recommending her services to any professional who may be looking to dispose of their practice.”

Richard Wheatley of Wheatley & Co. Nov. 2017

AP3269: Cobb, Burgin & Co., Nottingham sold to HSKS Greenhalgh

Vendor: “Although we advise clients on selling their businesses the prospect of selling our own practice was slightly different given the objectives we set. Lucinda did an in depth fact find at the initial meeting to understand what we were looking for from the sale. She provided good feedback from the discussions we had with potential purchasers and we were happy with the attentive service provided.”

“I had a very detailed initial meeting with Lucinda so that she was able to find out in depth about my practice and set out in detail the steps required to maximise the number of potential purchasers and guide me through the sale process and likely timetable.

The process proceeded with the minimum of involvement from myself and identified 27 interested purchasers. Lucinda and I were able to produce from this a short list of six firms who all made offers for my practice.

The sale has now been completed after due diligence from 3 firms and I can now look forward to a long and happy retirement. Peter Hayward. April, 2017.

Purchaser

I am very impressed with the way APMA carry out their business. The particulars provided were accurate and Lucinda clearly understood the sellers intentions. This allowed us to focus on making a deal happen despite having two other deals going on at the same time. Lucinda was proactive, always available and at all times fair.

I will certainly be using her services again should the right opportunity arise.”

Zahid Hussein, Sept. 2017

AP3276: Andersons Accountants, Derbyshire sold to Baldwins

Vendor

“After contacting several agencies I decided to use Lucinda of APMA because she was offering a face to face meeting. She met me at home at short notice. I found this meeting to be very informative. She set out the steps involved in the selling process clearly for me. She then went on to expedite the sale for me, again at short notice.

When the first meetings with the potential purchasers were organised, Lucinda sent me details of what was required and how to approach the meetings and she continued to hand hold throughout the whole process. She made herself available after office hours when it was easier for me to talk freely. The process allowed me to choose for myself who to sell the business to out of all of the interested parties. I was pleased with the service offered by Lucinda and APMA.”

AP3275: Minshalls Ltd., Nottinghamshire sold to Baldwins

Director

Vendor

“Having done over 40 years in the profession, I feel that now is the right time to start handing over the reins. I wanted to crystallise my goodwill whilst at the same time continuing to work ! The last thing I wanted to do was to start the process in a couple of years time! Lucinda, told me this could easily be done, and the arrangements I have allow me to do exactly that. She has been exemplary in her conduct throughout, “holding my hand“ when necessary and guiding me through what is quite an involved process. I can now look forward to the remaining time I have, without worry!”

We were very happy with the way Lucinda handled the sale of our business. She gave us good advice which we didn’t always take, but she still supported us and helped us conclude our sale to a buyer who was on standby after our original purchaser fell through.

Your support through this process to both ourselves and John and Kate has been invaluable allowing the resurrection of a deal which had gone wrong for John and Kate to something that will be ultimately beneficial to all parties.

I disposed of my practice in August 2016 at the culmination of a process which started in the previous February. AP3264: Howard Napper & Co., Stanmore sold to M. Ashton Accountants Ltd.

Vendor

Lucinda has been 100% professional throughout. From the first time when I contacted her, her estimated timetable has been spot on. She has a huge database and my initial response was from 98 firms. She reduced this to 54 serious suitors, helped me reduce these to eight firms for initial meetings, and then four for final meetings. She has always been available for advice and a prompt response. Everything went smoothly and I never had any doubt that I would get what I wanted and when. I do not think I could have found a better broker than Lucinda and I have already recommended her to another vendor. I knew nothing about selling my practice and Lucinda made it all seem easy, a true sign of a professional.

Howard Napper; February, 2016

Dom & Alf of Jones Hunt; Dec. 2015

Vendors

“Whilst as professional accountants, we readily advise clients on selling businesses, mergers and successions, when it comes to one’s own practice and addressing the future, it is not so easy! APMA’s professional skills and judgements, and Lucinda’s helpful approachability with structured documentation, were key factors in progressing our arrangements to mutual satisfaction with our enthusiastic new partners. We are very pleased with APMA’s services.

Colin Taylor, July 2015

AP3251: Accounting Financial Services UK Ltd., Romford

Vendor

“Unfortunately at the end of 2013 sadly my brother passed away and I found myself as executor to his estate and required to sort out all his affairs. I approached Lucinda Kitchin in March 2014 to help with the marketing and sale of his accountancy business. I found Lucinda very understanding and personable and quick to respond to all the questions that I bombarded her with. The business sold in September 2014, not without its hiccups, but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend APMA as a very professional and efficient company to work alongside.”

AP3249: Brentford Book-keepers (gross fees c.£190k) sold to Team B

Vendor

“Many thanks Lucinda, the selling of the business was done very quickly and professionally. You guided me through the process with easy to understand steps and much patience! I objective was to get the best fit for my clients and staff and your understanding of my needs was matched with the potential buyers I interviewed. I did try and sell the business privately, but after 7 months decided this wasn’t going to happen – it only took 4 months to have the deal signed with your help and guidance. I am very happy with the company that purchased my clients, and would highly recommend you to others wishing to sell their practices. Thanks again for all your help.”

Jillian Crowcroft – October, 2014

Purchaser

“Lucinda and her team were efficient and effective throughout, able to support the process from end to end. Indeed, we heard many good things said by the vendor of their experience in working with APMA. Armed with that knowledge, who else would you trust to support the disposal of your practice?”

Lucinda and Jeremy, in my opinion, provide a very professional, knowledgeable and independent service to both Vendors and potential Purchasers. Their advice to me as a potential purchaser has been excellent and they took a real interest in what I was looking for to develop my business. Things are done in a totally confidential manner. I believe both the vendor and purchaser can expect to enjoy the process as advertised.

AP3235: Accountants You Can Talk With Ltd. (Gross Fees c.£125k) sold to JSP Accountants

Vendor

As with so many before me, I cannot speak highly enough of the service provided by Lucinda. A very difficult process was made much easier by the documentation provided at the start and at the end and also by the advice, explanations and general support (even in a period of personal difficulty) given with patience, professionalism and humour. I tried other agencies before for different reasons and they could not match my requirements but Lucinda’s final list was so well researched that it was difficult to cull. Eventually I concluded the deal with a practice that I am sure will nurture “my baby” of 27 years and improve the services to clients and, thanks to Lucinda, achieved a better than anticipated multiple!

(Colin Jerrett, August 2013)

This is the first time we’ve acquired a practice and Lucinda held our hand throughout the whole process. We would not hesitate to use APMA for any future acquisitions and would recommend them to other practices looking to buy or sell.

(Russell Geary FCCA, Director, 2013)

Vendor

I took the decision to step down from my business for family reasons. I felt very attached to my clients and staff and found the prospect daunting and at times emotional. I knew nothing about selling the business and did not know where to start. I contacted Jeremy Kitchin APMA and Lucinda came to see me to talk through the whole process. I was very impressed with Lucinda’s professional and approachable manner. She really took the time to understand me and my business and the sort of people I wanted to take it over, as it was very important for me to know that my clients and staff would be looked after. Lucinda was very helpful and reassuring throughout the whole process, guiding me through each stage. She was always available at the end of the phone to answer queries, or even just to talk things through. With Lucinda’s help I have been able to find the ideal people to look after my clients and staff and I am extremely happy with the way it has all worked out. I would highly recommend the services of Lucinda.

AP3211: A. Gibson Taxation Services (Gross Fees c.£310k) sold to Smith-Milne & Co. Ltd

Purchaser

“This was my second acquisition via A.P.M.A. and once again the level of service and assistance provided by Jeremy, Lucinda and the team was second to none, a rather complex acquisition but none the less the staff at A.P.M.A. were always available (even going out of their way whilst on holiday) to assist a smooth transaction. I wouldn’t hesitate to use their services again and hope to do so in the foreseeable future.”

(Justin Smith-Milne, Smith-Milne & Co., June 2012)

Vendor

“My thanks to you and Lucinda for all that you have done. It has been a long haul because of the double complexity of a niche market and two businesses interlaced, but you have both been supportive and positive throughout, especially when I felt apprehensive or puzzled and got it off my chest on to you.”

(Alan Gibson, MA, June 2012)

Buckingham & Company (Gross fees £435,000) – Northwood – Internal buy out

Vendor

I would urge anyone buying or selling an accountancy practice, as a first step, to avail themselves of Jeremy Kitchin’s wide ranging pack of draft documents. Solicitors may work efficiently with the sales of static businesses but an accounting practice is a living and moving entity like no other and so more is required. There have to be special clauses in sale and purchase agreements that cope with and control client fall out post sale and many other issues. Jeremy’s documents are drawn up with these things in mind and one only has to look at the construction of the formats to realise that the precision of the wording comes from someone with many years of working with practices and people who own them. It is my belief that anyone with only limited drafting skills can produce a very workable set of documents that will not only reflect what they and the prospective buyer or seller will need and accept, but will shave thousands of pounds off solicitors costs.

The additional bonus is that Jeremy is on hand to advise on what is in final draft and provide an overall view as to whether it is likely to all work in practice. This really is a first class service and my thanks go to him.

AP3214: John A. Roberts merged with Bridge House Accountants, East Midlands

Purchaser

“I had never acquired a practice before but Jeremy showed great patience and provided all of the information and templates I needed in order to proceed smoothly. The vendor was ‚ quite rightly anxious that his clients be looked after and were going to a good home, which meant that the he needed lots of reassurance over a prolonged period before the agreement was finally signed. Jeremy was a calm and professional influence and was able to let both acquirer and vendor take whatever time was required in order to ensure that both parties could develop confidence in one another and arrive at a commercial but amicable conclusion. I would not hesitate to recommend Jeremy’s services and indeed would have no reservations in using his firm to assist me when eventually I become a vendor.”

(A K Fawbert, FCA, John A. Roberts, Nov. 2011)

AP3188: Garratt Watts (Gross Fees £36,000) sold to Hunts Accountants

Vendor

“Having gradually reduced my mainly specialised practice over the years to retirement to a fee basis circa £40000, I was concerned that this would not be particularly attractive to sell. I was wrong. I contacted Jeremy Kitchen in 2008 to test the water and he gave me confidence that there would be many to whom it would appeal. He was right. In 2010 the decision to sell was taken, I was surprised at the interest he stimulated and he carefully, and thoughtfully, guided me through what would otherwise have been a daunting task. I am most appreciative of the help afforded to bring the sale to a satisfactory conclusion.”

(John Watts, 2011)

Purchaser

“I would like to thank Lucinda and Jeremy for their assistance with our recent acquisition. Although I have been established for twelve years it was my first acquisition, APMA were very helpful and gave very good clear advice and assistance when needed. The process seemed very smooth and structured which made the whole issue seem a lot less daunting than perhaps I had thought. Many thanks.”

AP3171: Harrison & Co (Gross Fees £300,000, Long Eaton) sold to anonymous buyer

Vendor

“Last summer I took the decision to dispose of my practice mainly because of stress and a worsening health situation, and contacted Jeremy Kitchin, who I had been acquainted with for over 25 years. I personally felt that my practice would be of limited interest and that it would be difficult to achieve a reasonable price in the current economic climate. Jeremy assured me that there would be buyers interested and I agreed a deal with APMA to market my practice. Within a month I had a list of potential purchasers who had been vetted by APMA to ensure they had the financial resources to complete a transaction and I was able to pick an initial group to interview. From this group came three practices who carried out due diligence and made firm offers. I accepted one of these and the whole process had only taken 10 weeks. We exchanged and completed contracts in February 2010 ( after my last ever January tax return mayhem). I can now look forward to a secure and hopefully long retirement with my wife all thanks to the efficiency and expertise of APMA. Did I do the right thing? Well my wife says yes because at one point last year I apparently said even if I get nothing for the practice I can’t go on, the stress is killing me. Thanks to APMA I did get a good deal and I am already feeling a lot more relaxed and less stressed.”

They made the whole process so smooth and easy. All queries were dealt with promptly and personally and they reduced a most stressful time to an easily managed business transaction. Jeremy assured us that with APMA‚s experience and extensive contacts that we most definitely had a saleable business. In fact, after the initial marketing we were amazed at the number of interested parties that came forward. AP3158: Sloan & Co (Gross Fees £40,000,Uxbridge) sold to Baxter Smith-Milne

Vendor

“I am very happy with how the sale of my life’s work was handled by APMA – it all ran very smoothly and without any stress! After the initial marketing, APMA presented me with the profiles of the interested Purchasers so that I could choose those whom I wished to meet. After the initial non-technical meetings I knew with whom I could do business and who would be most likely to retain my clients and to service them well. I could not have lined up so many high quality Purchasers myself, nor could I have done this whilst retaining my own anonymity, so I definitely think that APMA’s fees justify the excellent service that I received, and all within the agreed time-scale! Thank you very much APMA!”

(Ian Sloan, 2009)

“I sold my business in December 2008 through APMA and the whole process was sympathetically handled and smoothly driven by Jeremy Kitchin and his excellent team. He ensured that the two sides of the transaction were suitably matched to ensure maximum ease of sale, and minimum disruption to clients, which is vital when the business has been your life for many years. Thanks to Jeremy I have happily retired from the rigors of life as a practitioner, and when I bump into clients locally they are very happy with the service they are continuing to receive from my buyer. An excellent result was achieved for all concerned.”

However, Jeremy reassured me that no practice was too small and gave me a date for completion that he assured me we would make. We did!Throughout I was only a telephone call away from excellent professional support and advice. Deciding to give APMA a call was the best decision I ever made. (Apart from retiring!)”
